Love Long Distance

So... Now that you're MARRIED....

"So when are you moving to Australia?"

Uh, I don't know.

"*blur look*"

Well, you see, Paul just got awarded Directorship at his firm, and I'm running the Miss Universe Malaysia Pageant, and neither of us want to sacrifice our careers just yet so...

"*Attempting to hide surprised look* Wow.. Okay.. that must be.. hard...?!"

Yeah, it is, I miss him. We still see each other once a month on average though.. *awkward smile*

"Heh..heh.. yeah. Wow. Yeah. .. WOW."

....Yeah. Oooh look I'm just going to.. uh... yeah go to my friend..over..there....

------------------------------------------------

Okay so maybe that's not how it always goes, but the conversation above is a true story! I know its not conventional, since a "Good Wife" will be with "Her Husband" at all times...

But lets think about it this way.

I'm lucky enough to have found the man of my dreams, who supports me in everything I do, and my happiness is his. I am happy as National Director of Miss Universe Malaysia. I am happy to be able to see my now 72 year old father every morning and night. I am happy with my friends, my social life and my career.

If I have the rest of my life with Paul to look forward to, I don't see why enjoying what makes me happy for a while longer yet is such a bad thing!

The same goes for Paul, who has finally found an area of the Law that he enjoys. His friends and family are in Perth as well. I can't drag him away from that to stay in Malaysia to be my man-bag! (though it was tempting even to him at times LOL!). He would not be able to practice Law here, and would miss out on valuable years at the firm.. it just makes sense for him to be in Perth for now.

Yes, we trust each other. We speak every day, in fact, a few times a day! I travel with our framed photo in my suitcase, I text him on average 10 times a day, and we try to plan two big holidays a year together. When I am not working, I take time to go to Perth, and when he has the time, he flies to KL.

It's expensive, but its worth it.

And if I had a choice between having my soulmate far away, than not at all, I'd much rather pick the former! Wouldn't you?

Rempit-ing in Phuket
Peas in a Pod!
..Distance; a tiny obstacle with a bond this strong!

Oh, who cares what people think. Each couple have their own personal space and rules and don't need to conform to society standards. Who's to say a madly in love couple who's together 24/7 have a bond as strong as yours being apart, anyway???

There are many narrow minded people in this world. Smile at them. They need it :-)

Well, it sounds like your situation is only a temporary one though it is not easy being far from the one you love! I think u and ur hubby are doing the best that u can and eventually u both will be living together soon. Don't worry, but if u feel like u shd be together, then go with what ur gut says :)

Speaking for myself, in the same situation, marriages that are long distance works for 1 year, but not after that.

Marriage is hard, long distance will make it even harder...but if you are committed and trust each other, then it will work (without these though it won't). These are the two for most couples which will determine if they make it or not.

Hi Andrea...

Just my 2 cents...

Long distance r'ships are hard because.....because part of the way people cope with the absence of their loved one is learning how to get along without them. When you do that poorly, you find yourself being miserable all the time. When you do that too well, you find yourself too detached from that person. Both extremes do not bode well for a relationship.

It's a lot like walking on a tight rope don't you think? :-)

I wrote a bit more of my thoughts based on my own experience. Would love to share it with you here.

Anyway, just want to shamelessly let you know : I'm such a fan! Hope things continue to go well for the both of you!

I was in a long distance relationship for more than 4 years from when we met, fell in love, and even after we got married. It was not that tough if both of you are committed to it and have trust 100%. Even though we were apart - MY & USA...but we never felt apart cos we in constant communication. We know exactly what each other is doing every day. We are together now cos I finally decided I that I will move to USA. And life is even better. Good luck!

Hi Andrea. I was visiting your blog and the post on long distance love. Careers often pose a challenge to couples and in this day of global economies, especially so. I admire the mutual support you two show. But I'm especially happy for your dad. At 72, I'm sure it means a lot to him to have his daughter near.
I am from California and I write a blog on love, food, relationships and recipes. Not always in that order. Stop by and visit. Maybe follow. that would be cool.
